The East Texas Rural Electric Youth Seminar

Upshur Rural Electric, along with eight other cooperatives in the northeast Texas area, participates in a unique program for sophomore and junior students.

The East Texas Rural Electric Youth Seminar (ETREYS) is an all expense paid week-long leadership and motivational seminar that was developed to promote Cooperative philosophy, ideals and values among young people. Speakers will include nationally-known personalities, college professors, and community leaders. Students will be given the opportunity to enhance their leadership and problem-solving skills in a positive learning environment on a college campus as well as compete for scholarship monies that will be awarded during the week. Several functions and free-time activities are also planned to develop friendships and provide fun. Upshur Rural Electric selects 15 students to participate in the seminar. Overall there are approximately 125 students in attendance from all over the north east Texas area.

ETREYS is held on the campus of East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, TX and is usually held the last week of June.

Students that attend ETREYS will also have the opportunity to apply for a chance to attend NRECA's annual Youth Tour in Washington D.C. For more information on Youth Tour, visit www.texas-ec.org/youth-programs/tour.
