The Board of Directors of Upshur Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation (URECC) established the Upshur Rural Electric Community Foundation (URECF) in 2024 to strengthen and support the communities we serve. Formed as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Foundation is dedicated to providing charitable, scientific, religious, and educational assistance throughout URECC’s service area. Its primary source of funding is our member-supported bill round-up program.

Since its creation, the Foundation has focused on ensuring that every dollar collected remains in the counties served by URECC. This ensures that all support directly benefits local people, organizations, and community initiatives. Through the power of small, voluntary contributions, URECF is able to offer meaningful financial support to projects that address unmet needs and improve quality of life across East Texas.

Members have been able to participate in the round-up program since January 2024 by choosing to round their monthly bill up to the next dollar. On average, this adds up to about $6 per year per member. Many members also choose to provide one-time gifts or set up recurring monthly donations. All contributions are pooled into the Foundation’s grant fund and distributed to qualifying nonprofit and community organizations across URECC’s ten-county service area. Grant applications are reviewed on a regular basis by the URECF Board of Directors to ensure funds are used wisely and in ways that make a lasting local impact.

For less than $1 per month, URECC members can help strengthen local services, support essential programs, and empower organizations working to meet critical community needs. Enrollment is quick and easy. Members can sign up through our SmartHub app, fill out the mail-in form below, or contact our Member Services department at 903-843-2536. Together, we can continue improving lives and supporting important projects throughout East Texas.
