Winter Storm Fern Update

***URECC MEMBERS***
As we wrap up the aftermath of Winter Storm Fern and continue storm cleanup efforts, we are grateful that Upshur Rural Electric Co-Op did not experience the same level of impact as many other utility providers. When outages did occur, our dedicated crews and contractors responded quickly, working safely and efficiently to restore power.
We want to extend a sincere THANK YOU to our crews and contractors for their commitment to the communities we serve and for the pride they take in their work. We would also like to recognize our behind-the-scenes employees who answered phone calls, dispatched crews, provided meals, and supported operations every step of the way. Your hard work does not go unnoticed.
During the storm, we saw a record number of members engaging with updates across our website and social media platforms. We believe our storm preparedness materials, frequent outage updates, and photos from the field add real value to our communications and demonstrate our commitment to keeping members informed and connected. Thank you to our members for your trust, support, and engagement.
In recent years, URECC has placed additional emphasis and resources into our right-of-way program, pole inspection program, and overall system maintenance to strengthen and harden our electric system. We truly believe those efforts paid off during this storm, and we remain committed to continuing this important work.
Lastly, in the coming weeks, members may notice higher than normal electric bills due to colder temperatures and increased energy usage. With another cold front on the way, here are a few tips to help manage energy use:
• Set your thermostat between 68 and 70 degrees and keep it consistent
• Use programmable or smart thermostats to minimize heat strip use
• Layer up with blankets and warmer clothing before raising the heat
• Seal drafts around doors and windows
• Close blinds and curtains at night to trap heat and open them during the day to let sunlight warm your home
• Run ceiling fans on low and clockwise to circulate warm air
Thank you again for allowing URECC to serve you. 💡💛
