***URECC MEMBERS-8:30 AM POWER OUTAGE UPDATE*** Our crews have been working around the clock to restore service to members impacted by the recent storm. At this time, just under 5,000 members remain without power. The majority of the damage we've encountered has been caused by strong winds. We’re grateful to have two additional crews from J&L assisting with the restoration process, and we sincerely thank them for their support. Pittsburg Area:
Several crews are actively addressing major outages in this region, including two contracted crews and three right-of-way crews working to clear lines and make necessary repairs. Cox, Ebenezer & Leesburg Areas:
Damage in these areas primarily involves broken cross arms on utility poles. Crews are on-site and working diligently to replace the damaged components and restore power. Harleton Area:
Similar to the other areas, broken cross arms are the main issue here. A specialized crew equipped with a swamp buggy is working to make repairs on a double circuit line. Remaining Service Territory:
Crews are progressing steadily across all remaining areas, addressing individual outages as safely and quickly as possible. ⚠️ Safety Reminder:
Please stay away from any downed power lines. Always assume they are live and dangerous. We truly appreciate your continued patience and understanding as we work to restore power safely and efficiently. To report an outage or service issue, please use the SmartHub app or call 903-680-2100.

Texas House Bill 3448 (HB 3448) is currently being considered and could directly affect URECC and our members if passed.

Here’s what the bill would do:

  • Require electric cooperatives to provide access to our poles for cable and broadband companies
  • Allow the Texas Public Utility Commission to set the rates and terms for those attachments, based on federal FCC guidelines
  • Remove the ability for co-ops and telecom companies to negotiate contracts on pricing or timelines
  • Shift certain costs to co-op members, including:
  • Replacing or upgrading poles for telecom attachments
  • Installing larger poles when needed for new developments or public projects
  • Engineering and design work related to pole sizing
  • Require co-ops to share accounting records with telecom companies, without requiring the same in return
  • Allow telecom companies’ work to be prioritized over co-op service requests
  • Increase risk to private property from third-party contractors, with limited options for recourse

HB 3448 would change how co-ops operate and how costs are shared. If you have concerns about this bill, we encourage you to contact your local State Representative and Senator.

Thank you for staying informed and involved.
