***URECC MEMBERS***
URECC is actively preparing for a major winter storm expected to impact our area soon. Our crews, along with five contracted line crews and additional right-of-way teams, are ready to respond if outages occur. This storm has the potential to be historic, with multiple days of freezing precipitation and prolonged below-freezing temperatures that could slow restoration efforts. Extended outages are possible. Please take time to prepare now.
How to prepare now:
• Charge phones, backup batteries, and portable power banks
• Make a plan for any medical devices that require electricity- If your medical equipment is required for life support, alternate plans need to be made.
• Assemble an emergency kit with flashlights, batteries, food, water, and first aid supplies
• Keep warm clothing and blankets accessible
• Protect pipes by dripping faucets, wrapping outdoor pipes, and opening cabinets
• Know how to report an outage
Ice can weigh down trees and power lines, causing limbs and lines to fall. Downed power lines may be hard to see—always stay away and assume they are energized.
Report outages or downed lines through SmartHub, our website, or by calling 903-680-2100. For emergencies, call 911 first, then notify URECC.
We are committed to serving our members and will continue sharing updates and preparation tips. Thank you for your cooperation as we prepare for this severe weather event.
