Why is my electric bill high?

At Upshur Rural Electric Co-Op, we understand that extreme weather can have a real impact on your monthly bill.

When temperatures dropped at the end of January and many families were iced in for days, energy use naturally increased. Heating systems worked overtime, and with more time spent indoors, TVs were on, meals were cooked at home, and appliances and devices were running at the same time. Kilowatt usage added up quickly. Those spikes often show up on the following month’s bill, which can make it feel unexpected.

Remember, the power you are using today will be reflected on next month’s statement.
