The 2025 URECC scholarship application will open February 1 and close at midnight on April 15, 2025.
One of the best investments a community can make is in education. Each spring, Upshur Rural Electric awards scholarships to graduating seniors who reside with their parent or legal guardian and are active member-owners of URECC.
In 1999, House Bill 3203 was passed by the Texas Legislature, allowing nonprofit electric cooperatives to use unclaimed capital credit funds—previously collected by the Comptroller’s Office for the State General Fund—to support scholarships for students in rural areas. Since the bill’s passage, Upshur Rural has awarded over $450,000 in scholarships.
These scholarships may be used for tuition, books, or expenses at any accredited university, college, junior college, or technical/trade school. Recipients are selected by the URECC Board of Directors Scholarship Committee and will be notified in May.
